Indianapolis Monumental Marathon / Half-Marathon Training Program

- Long runs are every Saturday morning at 7 a.m. beginning June 24

Continuing Second Wind tradition, we will offer a summer marathon training program targeting the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (Monumental) weekend. Race distances that weekend include the marathon, half-marathon, 5k, and kids run for ages 4-10. Our summer long runs are for those who want to train for the marathon or half-marathon races for this race weekend (and we also will have recommended distances listed for those of you running Chicago a month earlier to make long runs for everyone more fun!). Run locations and routes will be made available by June 15.
For those of you who are new club members, or tend to skim emails, here is some background information from past years. Because so many Second Wind-ers run one of the Monumental races we schedule our summer/fall weekend long runs to coincide with this event. It’s a great race and we have had more than forty members running in it for several years. Afterwards we gather at a restaurant downtown for some post-race food, drinks and time to share our race stories.
Again this year, Monumental is offering us a 10% discount off the registration fee for those who have not registered yet. (The price increases on Thursday, May 11 so sign up now!). When registering use the code from the weekly email at checkout. (Monumental and Second Wind will be verifying membership.) The Saturday training runs will be every other Saturday morning at 7 a.m. beginning June 24. The club will provide water at each run and all routes this season will be new!!!!
Since this is a free training program, there will not be official pace groups like the spring training program, but there will be people running at different paces and no one ever ends up running alone. Of course, you can use these long runs as training for any event that you are interested in. There is no requirement to run Monumental to come to the training runs.
