The Second Wind Running Club was formed in 1983 to promote running activities in the Champaign-Urbana area. Membership is open to anyone interested in running, walking, and fitness.


  • 2013 Summer Distance Runs - Train with us for the Monumental Marathon!


    Join us this summer and early fall for the Club Distance Runs!  We will be running at 7am starting August 3rd.  These runs will help you get ready for our fall road trip to the Monumental Half-Marathon or Marathon on November 2, 2013.  Each run will be hosted by one of our summer distance run coordinators.  There will be aid at the start/finish and the routes will be loop courses in Champaign-Urbana or Mahomet so you can train for either the half or full marathon.  We look forward to you joining us!  If you would like to assist with hosting any of the runs please email president@secondwindrunningclub.org.

    All distance runs begin at 7am.

  • 2013 Fall Road Trip
    Monumental Marathon, Half-marathon, 5K, and Kids Fun Run
    Saturday November 2nd, 2013

    We are planning a Fall race trip... come to Indianapolis for the Monumental Marathon with us!  Why Indy for the Monumental? Look at these comments from Second Wind Members who ran the race in 2012:

    "I have run the Indy Monumental Half Marathon the last two years and it is one of my favorite races.
    Perfect weather and a flat and fast course have helped me PR there twice. The whole weekend is easy—there
    is plenty of cheap parking near the expo and race start, packet pick-up is a breeze, corrals and pace teams
    ensure a good race experience, there is plenty of water and Gatorade on the course and tons of food at the
    finish. Plus this year, they opened up the YMCA to allow finishers to shower if needed. Meeting up with the
    SWRC members both before and after the race made for a memorable experience—it was so exciting to hear
    about everyone’s race experience. I’m looking forward to doing the full marathon there next year!"

    "The Hyatt and the Westin are two downtown hotels that are virtually at the race start/finish line. Not
    only that, but they are literally across the street from the race expo, public parking, and the places where
    our group was meeting up. I managed to also get a late pass to the fitness center within the hotel, where
    I was able to shower and change after the race. A number of us had coordinated to meet at the Buca di
    Beppo restaurant downtown to do some nigh- before carb-loading. The meal was family style and the portions
    plentiful. During dinner we discussed our goals and race strategies. I found the race course flat and
    I settled into my goal pace without making too many adjustments. The event was well-supported and aid
    was available every two to three miles. Everything held together for me to the end where I finished with a
    PR and a Boston qualifying time! After the race we had all planned to meet up at the Rock Bottom Brewery
    just around the corner from Buca di Beppo. The merriment at the Brewery capped off a great race weekend
    where I think everyone had a good race experience to pass along."

    All Second Wind members are encouraged to register for one of the great events at the Indy Monumental marathon this year.  The club will be providing more information regarding  plans for members to meet up before and after the race, so stay tuned!

  • Annual Banquet: Ushering in our 30th Year!

    *Registration for the Annual Award Event has ended.  You must have registered/and or paid to attend.  Due to counts for food we are not able to take walk-ins that evening.   If you have any questions please email stanruns@hotmail.com with Banquet Question in the subject line. 



    We will be announcing our Award Winners, recognizing Race Circuit Award Winners and distributing Build a Better Second Wind prizes, as well as enjoying stories from some of our founding and early club members. Wear your favorite 2012 Race(s) Medal or shirt: Share your favorite 2012 Race(s) by wearing the medal of that race or the shirt and share your story with others during the evening.

    This year features a buffet dinner with beer and soda by Town and Country Catering. Location: Laborers International Union Hall, 108 E. Anthony Drive, Urbana

    Event is 6pm - 9pm: Dinner Buffet (3 entrees including a vegetarian option) at 6:30pm; program 7:15 to 8:15pm.  Program agenda will include (1) Introduction of Board (2) Panel of founding/early members (3) Build a Better Second Wind Awards (4)  Race Circuit Awards (5) Annual Awards (6) Outline and highlights of events and activities for 2013.  All during the event enjoy the slideshow, renew your membership.  Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening - each attendee will be entered to win.
